Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsFor a person searching "med spa near me" from a parked car, the map and its short list of med spas is the search. The business names, star ratings and photos shown there carry as much weight as any website. This page covers how to build and maintain a Google Business Profile for a medical aesthetics clinic: which category to choose, how to describe treatments, what to show in photos, how to handle reviews responsibly and what makes a listing rank.
Why the listing matters
The map view compresses a lot of judgment into a tiny card. A star rating and review count signal whether other people trusted you. A cover photo and a few pictures of the space signal whether the clinic feels clean, professional and welcoming. The category line tells a stranger what kind of place this is. The hours and the "open now" tag decide whether a same-week consultation is possible. Prospective patients do not read all of it consciously; they simply tap the card that feels right.
Because aesthetics is a high-trust purchase, the listing also does a job a plumber's listing does not need to do: it reassures. Provider names, a short description that mentions medical oversight where accurate, a visible booking link and consistent details across the internet all make the med spa look established. Gaps do the opposite. A missing phone number, a photo from five years ago or a review that has gone unanswered for months pushes the patient to the competitor one card down.
Ranking in the map list is influenced by relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot move your building, but you can improve the other two, and you can make sure the listing is not held back by avoidable mistakes. The search optimization page shows how the website supports this.
Profile setup
| Profile field | What to do | Common mistake | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business name | Use your real, signed name exactly as it appears at the door and on your website | Adding treatment keywords or a city to the name | Keyword-stuffed names can lead to edits or suspension and look untrustworthy |
| Primary category | Choose the category that matches what you actually are, commonly a medical spa category where it fits | Picking a generic spa or beauty category that removes the medical signal | The primary category carries the most weight in matching searches |
| Additional categories | Add only those that describe services you truly provide | Listing categories for services you do not offer | Misleading categories can cause trouble and confuse searchers |
| Services list | Add each treatment as its own entry with a short, plain description | One vague line or a copied manufacturer blurb | Services feed relevance and answer questions on the card itself |
| Description | Describe the med spa, its providers and its approach in honest, non-promotional language | Promising outcomes or packing in keywords | Descriptions that read as claims can create compliance trouble |
| Hours | Show accurate hours and update them for holidays and events | Out-of-date hours after a schedule change | A closed sign at the wrong time costs bookings and reviews |
| Booking link | Link to your real online booking page | Pointing to a home page with no path to book | Reduces friction for people ready to schedule |
| Photos and video | Show the exterior, entrance, treatment rooms, team and products with permission from anyone pictured | Using stock images, or patient photos without consent | Real photos build trust, and consent protects the patient and the clinic |
Google's guidelines and category lists change, so we recheck them whenever we update a profile. If your practice is run through a separate physician entity, call it out early, because shared addresses sometimes create category and ownership questions.
Setup routine
We confirm you own the listing, resolve duplicates and make sure the profile shows your real name, address, phone and hours.
We pick the primary category that fits your med spa and add secondary ones only for services you perform, then watch for changes Google makes.
Every treatment you want to be known for gets an entry with plain-language text that your clinicians have approved.
We guide a simple photo plan: exterior, reception, rooms, team and products, with permission from anyone who appears.
You get a short, rule-friendly way to ask for reviews after visits, and a plan for responding to each one.
Regular updates about events, new equipment or seasonal availability, along with checks for unauthorized edits and new questions.
Reviews
Reviews are the most visible form of proof a clinic has, and a steady flow of recent, genuine ones helps both rankings and conversion. A healthy routine asks every patient, right after a good visit, with a simple link by text or email. It does not offer gifts for reviews, ask only happy patients (a practice Google's policies discourage) or pressure anyone. It does not write reviews on anyone's behalf or use staff and family to inflate the count.
Responding to reviews is where aesthetics differs most from other trades. If a reviewer is a patient, confirming that fact in a public reply may disclose protected information. A safe approach is to reply in general terms, thank the person, invite them to contact the med spa directly and avoid referring to any treatment, visit date or detail the reviewer did not already make public in the review. Many med spas have an attorney approve two or three reply templates. Whether HIPAA applies to your practice depends on facts only you and your counsel can assess, and state rules may apply regardless.
Negative reviews will arrive. A calm, brief and professional reply, with an offer to talk offline, often matters more to the next reader than the complaint itself. We draft replies for your approval and flag anything that looks like a policy violation worth reporting to Google.
Local factors
Does the listing match the search
Category, services, description and the wording of your reviews all help Google decide whether you fit "lip filler" or "laser hair removal."
How close is the searcher
You cannot change your address, but you can show service areas accurately and build local pages that reflect real patient travel.
How well known you are
Review quality and volume, links, mentions across the web and general brand strength contribute.
Same details everywhere
Name, address, phone and website should match across directories. Differences confuse systems and patients.
People interact with the card
Calls, direction requests, booking clicks and photo views suggest a useful listing.
Signs of an active clinic
Recent photos, posts, replies and updated hours show that someone is paying attention.
Citations and local links add to prominence; our citation and link page describes the ones that suit a medical aesthetics clinic.
Special situations
Med spas with several practitioners face decisions that single-provider shops never do. Google allows individual practitioners to have their own listings only in certain conditions, and the rules are strict about when one is appropriate. Creating profiles for every injector can produce duplicates and conflicts, so we recommend a deliberate choice rather than a default. When a physician's separate practice shares your address, ownership and category questions need to be sorted out first, which is one more reason to involve your counsel early.
Multi-location groups need a consistent naming convention, a separate profile per real location and distinct local pages on the website, each with its own staff information, parking and neighborhood detail. A group should not claim a location it does not staff. Service-area language is usually not appropriate for a med spa where patients come to a fixed room, so we keep the listing aligned with how you actually operate.
For temporary events, such as a seasonal promotion or a guest provider day, we use posts and a clear update to hours rather than editing the core profile, which helps avoid accidental suspensions caused by repeated large changes.
Profile questions
Profile care, citation cleanup and review handling come bundled inside Organic Growth: Silver at $1,495 a month, Gold at $2,495, Platinum at $3,495. Landing pages by themselves are $495 monthly under RankGuarantee™. There is no sign-up charge and no contract. Our marketing guide compares the options if you are unsure where to start.
The primary category should describe what you actually are, and many clinics use a medical spa category where it applies. Do not choose a category for a service you do not offer. Google changes its list from time to time, and some med spas have extra considerations if a separate physician practice shares the space, so we review it with you.
That depends on your board's rules, platform policies, written patient consent and your counsel's view. Many med spas prefer to show the space and team instead. If you do use patient images, treat them as claims, keep consent on file and never imply a result is typical for everyone.
Avoid details. If the reviewer is a patient, a public reply that confirms or discusses treatment could reveal protected information. Use a short, courteous reply that invites them to contact the clinic, and have your attorney approve a template. We can draft replies for your sign-off.
Google's policies discourage offering incentives for reviews, and some regulators have their own views on incentivized endorsements. A safer approach is to ask every patient equally and make leaving a review easy. Have counsel confirm the approach for your state and your board. Whatever you choose, treat every patient the same way, so nobody is steered toward a particular rating.
Corrections can show up within days to weeks. Rising in a competitive area takes months and depends on reviews, relevance and competition. No one can promise a position, so we track calls, direction requests and booking clicks every month and show you what changed. Meanwhile, the AI search guide explains how the same facts feed assistant answers, and the website guide covers the page your listing links to.
Not usually. Google limits when individual practitioners may have their own listing, and extra profiles can create duplicates. We recommend deciding with your counsel and based on your situation, then keeping the main med spa listing as the strongest and most complete one. A single strong, well-reviewed listing usually outperforms several thin ones.
